SfN Consolidates with ANDP, Launches New Higher Education and Training Strategy 
The Association of Neuroscience Departments and Programs (ANDP) has consolidated with and become a part of SfN, effective July 1, 2009. As part of SfN's enhanced higher education and training strategy, ANDP programs and services will continue under a new SfN committee and with a new category of SfN membership. Learn more.

Imaging Study Shows Decrease in Empathic Responses to Outsiders 
An observer feels more empathy for someone in pain when that person is in the same social group, according to new research in the July 1 issue of The Journal of NeuroscienceThe study shows that perceiving others in pain activates a part of the brain associated with empathy and emotion more if the observer and the observed are the same race. The findings may show that unconscious prejudices against outside groups exist at a basic level. View press release.

Professional Development: SfN Evolves to Better Serve Members
In response to expressed member needs, SfN professional development programming and governance structures are evolving to better serve the Society’s growing and increasingly diverse membership. A new Professional Development Committee, with a new charter, will implement an expanded strategy to provide professional development opportunities for neuroscientists through all career stages. The new committee embraces the missions, activities, and members of the Committee on Women in Neuroscience and Committee on Diversity in Neuroscience while addressing a broader mandate. Learn more.
